Juliana Castillo - Viola

Juliana Castillo – Viola

Juliana Castillo, 15, studies viola under Shelley Beard Santore at the Music School of Delaware. She began playing violin at 4, studying with Julianne Murphy Ruiz, and has been playing viola for two years. She is a member of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, a Music School of Delaware Merit Scholar, and violist of the Gabriel Braverman String Quartet, a Settlement Music School Advanced Study Scholarship Program ensemble. This summer, Juliana attended the Perlman Music Program Summer Music School.

In spring 2018, Juliana won the Delaware Concerto Competition for Young Musicians (junior division). Juliana received the Elizabeth Alberta Edge Fund Merit Scholarship in 2016 and 2017, the Estelle Hillersohn Frankel Violin Scholarship in 2017, and the Anthony “Tony” G. Simmons Scholarship and Coastal Concerts Music Scholarship in 2018. She was the co-concertmaster of the Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra (DYSO) for its 2016-17 season; the same season, she won both the DYSO Concerto Competition and DYSO Violin Competition.

Juliana is an enthusiastic participant in community engagement and music education. She has served as a Student Assistant for the Music School of Delaware Youth Strings Camp for four years, and currently tutors violin and viola. She has been a guest performer for various religious and community organizations, such as the Rotary Club International, Adas Kodesch Shel Emeth (synagogue), the Church of the Nativity, the Pen Women’s Group, the Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia, and the Howard Pyle Studios (as part of Wilmington Art Loop).  


Nathan Jiang - Piano

Nathan Jiang – Piano

Nathan Jiang, age 13, studied with Ms. Joy Kiszely and currently with Dr. Igor Resnianski at Nelly Berman School of Music. In 2015, he won 1st place in New Jersey Young Pianist Concerto Competition and American Protégé international Concerto Competition. In 2016, Nathan was a finalist in the Philadelphia Orchestra Albert M. Greenfield student competition in the Children’s division and had a master class with Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky. In 2017, Nathan was the 1st place winner of the American Fine Arts Festival Concerto Competition, the Platinum winner of the Nelly Berman Young Classical Virtuosos of Tomorrow Competition and the prize winner of The Old York Road Symphony Young Artist Competition. Nathan was the category winner of the 2017 eMuse International Music Competition (Greece) and was awarded with a “Rising Star” diploma. In 2018, Nathan won the second prize in Tri-county Junior’s division. He made his solo orchestral debut with the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra in New Jersey at age 9. He has performed as a soloist with the Kostroma Symphony Orchestra, Russia in 2017 and the Old York Road Symphony in 2018. In August 2018, he will perform on WRTI (90.1 FM). Nathan also loves playing chamber music. In addition to his passion for music, Nathan also enjoys playing soccer and football, skiing, snowboarding, fishing, reading, writing and traveling with his family.


Sabine Jung - Cello

Sabine Jung – Cello

Sabine Jung, age 17, is a junior at Unionville High School. She is currently under the tutelage of Priscilla Lee, associate principal of the Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestra.

Ms. Jung joined the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) for their 2015-2016 season and by being selected to attend the inaugural year of the National Youth Orchestra 2 organized by the Weill Music Institute of Carnegie Hall as principal cellist.

Sabine was associate principal cellist of PYO’s 2016-2017 season. She received first for the Pottstown Rotary Club’s Performing Arts Competition and also won the Newark Symphony concerto competition. Ms. Jung was selected as an alternative cellist for NYO-USA 2017, and was a finalist of the Alfred M. Greenfield student competition. She also attended the Tanglewood Institute’s String Quartet Workshop.

Ms. Jung was principal cellist of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra for their 2017-2018 season. She was also First place winner of the Vivo International Competition, and was selected as an alternate cellist for NYO-USA 2018. Her other achievements during the year include winning the Ambler Symphony’s Elmer & Louise Menges Scholarship Award, the Main Line Symphony’s James Dietz Memorial Competition, and the Old York Symphony Concerto Competition. She also received Second Prize for the Enkor International Music Competition and First Place for the Vivo International Music Competition. During the summer, she returned to the Tanglewood Institute String Quartet Workshop, and NYO2 as Associate Principal Cello.

In her free time, Sabine enjoys playing with her dog, and also volunteers at the A.I. Dupont children’s hospital.


Timothy Kim - Clarinet

Timothy Kim – Clarinet

Timothy Kim, age 16, is a 10th grade student at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School. He has been studying clarinet for six years, and for the last three years under the tutelage of Dr. Rie Suzuki. He is currently a member of the Delaware County Youth Orchestra.  Timothy has participated in 2017 National Youth Orchestra of the United States (NY02) at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Institute (alternate in 2018). Timothy has been a member of the Philadelphia Sinfonia for two seasons 2016-18. Timothy has won prizes at Bucks County Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition, Philadelphia Korean Musicians Association sponsored Youth Music Competition, MTNA Pennsylvania Chapter, Tri-county Concerts Youth Festival.  When not playing clarinet, Timothy enjoys catching up on Star Trek and volunteering at a local hospital.

 

 

 


Robin Park - Cello

Robin Park – Cello

Robin Park, a resident of Princeton Junction, New Jersey, began learning the cello at the age 6. He has studied cello with Yumi Kendall, Thomas Kraines, Clara Kim, and currently studies with Priscilla Lee, the Associate Principal Cello of Philadelphia Orchestra.

Robin has won several competitions, including the Bravura Philharmonic Young Artists Competition, the Sinfonietta Nova Concerto Competition, Summit Symphony Young Artists Competition, Kennett Symphony Competition, Old York Symphony Competition, Newtown Chamber Orchestra Competition and 2018 Caprio Young Artists Competition. He performed as a soloist with Sinfonietta Nova,  Summit Symphony, Old York Road Symphony, and Newtown Chamber Orchestra. He was named an Honorable Mention Winner of the National YoungArts Fondation Competition in 2016 and 2017 and he was invited to participate in New York YoungArts Regional Program in 2018.

Robin is a part of the Myer Schwartz Piano Trio as an Advanced Study Scholarship student of Settlement Music School since 2016. During the summers of 2015 and 2016, he participated in the Boston University Tanglewood Institute String Quartet Workshop under the tutelage of Muir String Quartet. In 2017, he was invited to participate in Quartet Fellowship Program of Dali Quartet International Music Festival.

His ensemble experiences include Philadelphia Youth Orchestra as Assistant Principal Cellist, the New Jersey All-State High School Orchestra as Principal Cellist in three consecutive years from 2016 to 2018, CJMEA Region II High School Orchestra as Principal Cellist in 2016 and 2017, and NAfME All-National Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Principal Cellist in 2017. He also participated in the 2017 New York String Orchestra Seminar under the baton of Jaime Laredo. In the summer of 2018, Robin toured Asia as a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the USA, alongside conductor Michael Tilson Thomas and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet.
